New Supermariosingle

posted 14 Jun 2012, 01:19 by Steven Tonge   [ updated 14 Jun 2012, 01:20 ]

Yesterday, with absolutely minimal fuss, we sneaked out a new single - Choosing My Religion / How it Remains - featuring two new tracks recorded at our gig at The Wee Red Bar at the end of last year. It's not quite the finished mix but we've been all quiet of late and the mixing and mastering of the whole show is taking longer than anticipated so we thought we'd throw it out there for free so you can hear where we're up to.

The Passing of Another Year

Holy cow, it's almost December and getting on for 2012. In January, it will be four whole years since the seed of the Supermarionation was so innocently planted inside our tiny minds and how far we've come. Due to some imminent domestic changes, it's not clear yet whether we'll be going any further but we'll definitely be going as far as The Wee Red Bar on Thursday 15th December to celebrate Christmas, what's been and gone and to wonder what may be...

It's £4, there will be mince pies, Plastic Animals and Trapped Mice so you can't really go wrong. We're not saying it's your last Supermariochance but it might be. It might be...

Amongst the Northern Lochs, our new EP, is out now and available for free download from Six Take No Records. Get it down and check it out!

Also, thanks to all who came along to the launch party on Saturday, we hope you enjoyed it. We've nothing else coming up at the moment, but keep it tuned to and you'll be the first to know when we do.

Free from The Supermarionation

Cripes, it's almost the end of the summer already and not a peep out of the 'Nation since July. Never fear though, we're still here and there's some exciting things on the horizon. The largest of which is the release of our new EP, Live on Leith FM, which will be available to all for free download from Monday October 3rd. As if that wasn't enough, we're also putting on a free launch party at The Wee Red Bar in Edinburgh on Saturday October 1st to celebrate. We've got some great guest lined up to play with us on the night and a couple of other things happening in the run up to the release to get you almost as excited as we are. Announcements will follow over the next few weeks...

Save the date!

Three weeks shoot by and there's not a peep from Supermarionews. Apologies to those of you sitting on the edge of your browsers but, quite frankly, there's not been much to report. We've got a gig in the Edinburgh festival on Monday 15th August at The Electric Circus' Late, Live and Loud fringe show and that's about it. We were also featured in The Edinburgh Man's 65th Podcast where he played Those Home Girls amongst some other great tracks, mostly from around the Scottish scene. This is our first podcast appearance (we think) so be sure to check it out. Otherwise, we've mostly been watching cricket and other bands do their thing. Fear not though, we'll be back in the swing of things in the autumn with an live and free EP release. There'll be a launch party at The Wee Red bar on October 1st and a few other things kicking about so mark the date on the calendar and keep your ear to the ground for the word in Supermarioland.

Review Football

And another review rocks up, so that's two this week and five in total. The latest dispatch is from Is This Music?, who were not very impressed with the Supermariosound. Still, it's nice they took the time to listen and we're open to all opinions. If you feel the urge to share your thought's on On the Fly, then let us know - good or bad. It's all a matter of taste and there's lots of stuff we don't like too.

And if you're keeping score, it's 3-1 to the Supermarionation with one draw.

It's for Charity.

It's been quiet for a while, but it seems you can't keep us down. Despite trying to take month off, we've been recruited to play at the launch of Fresh Air's The Inside Track 2011 album launch. All profits from the gig and album go to Waverley Care, an excellent cause, and so you should get on down and enjoy both some tunes and the warm, fuzzy feeling that charitable giving brings.

In other news, On the Fly has been a "good first try" by Real Gone who took the time to listen and share their thought's without any spamming whatsoever - another Supermariofirst! Check it out and see if you agree with this critical appraisal.

Last Time Around

Man, this is getting like a proper blog what with all this regular posting. Well, enjoy it while it lasts as this might be the last one for a while. On Saturday, we'll be playing an acoustic set a The Southern Bar in Edinburgh for Ginger Music Promotions. Also playing are Mad Tango and Michael Dodds, there's cut price drinks to be had and it should be a great evening. You can signal your attendance on Facebook and it's your last chance for some Supermarioaction for a while as we're taking a break for a month or so while people take some holidays and those of us left work on some new material. We should be back sometime in August so keep an eye on the internets, we'll definitely write our next move on there somewhere.

The Birth of Big Dave

posted 12 Jun 2011, 13:59 by Steven Tonge   [ updated 12 Jun 2011, 14:20 ]

Hello all, there's a couple of gigs to tell you about this week. And we're branching out to include not only our own but also those of other people who we think would happily inhabit this great Supermarionation with us. Allow me to introduce PAWS, excellent rockmongers from Glasgow who will be playing the Ides of Toad at Henry's Cellar Bar in Edinburgh on Monday night alongside Milk Maid and Plastic Animals. We shall be representing and encourage you to do the same. Then, on Friday, we will be down at Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh at 7:30pm. As you may know, The Supermarionation has been partitioned into two halves of late: LOUD and quiet. On Friday, we shall be LOUD. And not only that, it is the very day that Dr. David Curry, our famed drummer entered this life. So we'll be pumping out some special birthday treats to surprise both you and maybe even Dave. After that, we shall be at The Southern Bar in in Edinburgh on Saturday 25th June when we shall be quiet. We'll post more precise details next week but until then, we hope to see you out and united in the rock.

Wee Red Weekend

posted 31 May 2011, 14:16 by Steven Tonge   [ updated 31 May 2011, 14:38 ]

This Friday there's some softly, softly going about as the Supermarionation are bringing their quieter side to the Wee Red Bar. Its our first time in this legendary Edinburgh venue and it could be our last too as its currently threatened with closure. As Edinburgh has something of a dearth of venue's already, this is going to be a big loss and you can register your disapproval somewhere on the internets. Not sure where though. Anyhoo, we will be there along with Paper Truth, Bouska and Sacre Noir. It should be a good evening so why not come down and start your weekend with us?
